Volunteer

There's a job for you in this campaign.

Knock doors. Carry petitions. Put up a sign. Help a neighbor request a mail ballot. Make calls from your kitchen table. Host Bob for a conversation with your block.

You don't need campaign experience. Pick something below and somebody will show you how.

Here's something useful you can do

What can I do?

Every one of these is a real job somebody is doing this week. Most of them take an hour.

  • Carry a petition sheet

An afternoon. The most valuable hour in the campaign right now.

Mostly talking to neighbors on your own block. The campaign trains you first, because the paperwork rules are strict.

  • Help a neighbor request a mail ballot

Fifteen minutes, sitting at somebody's kitchen table.

In a low-turnout April election this is the single highest-value thing a volunteer does. Tick the box in the form below.

    How the request works →
  • Put up a yard sign

Five minutes, then it works without you.

A sign on a Rockford lawn starts a conversation with everyone who walks past it. Ask for one in the form below and somebody brings it to you.

  • Knock your own block

A couple of hours, close to home.

You get turf near your own house, a short script, and somebody to call if a question comes up you can't answer.

  • Make calls from your kitchen table

An hour, sitting down, at any time of day.

Good if you'd rather not walk, or the weather is bad. Also how ballot reminders get made in March.

  • Host, drive, translate, or do list work

Whatever fits the time you actually have.

Host Bob and ten neighbors. Drive somebody to early voting. Interpret in Spanish or another language. Enter data at a computer.

This campaign has no party organization behind it. Everything that happens here, a neighbor does — so you get a specific job, somebody shows you how to do it, and the campaign respects your time.

Three fields, then tick whatever you're willing to do. A campaign volunteer follows up with a specific job and a date to do it.

How to reach you
We use your mobile number to match you quickly with a shift near you, and to follow up about the work you chose.
So you get turf near your own house. We need the street, because Rockford's wards cut across ZIP codes.
Optional. Only used if we can't reach you by phone.
Yard sign

A delivered sign is a conversation with a neighbor, so these get fulfilled fast rather than stockpiled.

What are you willing to do?

Pick as many as you like. Every one of these is a real job somebody is doing this week.

Want to circulate a nominating petition? That one has a separate sign-up, because state law requires you to confirm you are 18 or over, a U.S. citizen, and not circulating for another candidate for this office — and because the campaign trains every circulator before handing over a sheet. A person calls you back with something specific to do and a date to do it on. Not a form letter, and not a mailing list. What we do with your information.

Would rather just call?

815-669-9604. Someone answers, and if nobody does, leave a message with your street name and you will get a call back.
