What we collect and what we do with it.

We collect what you choose to give us, use it for campaign purposes, and don't sell your personal information. You can unsubscribe from texts at any time. Where election law requires us to keep contribution records, we do.

If you want your information corrected, or removed from campaign records where the law permits, ask and it happens.

The detail is below, in plain language, because a privacy policy nobody can read isn't a privacy policy.

Where our information about you comes from

Two places:

  • What you type into a form on this site — your name, street address, email, phone number, and anything you write in a message box.
  • Which page you were on when you did it. The form records the page it was sent from, so a message about the water bill doesn't get answered as if it were about petitions. That's the whole of it. This site does not record how you arrived, and it does not count your visit at all unless you send us something.

And the public voter file. Like every campaign in Illinois, we compare the names on our list against the voter file — a public record kept by election authorities. That's how we know whether someone is registered, which ward and precinct they're in, and whether they've voted in past elections.

Which means our records contain information you didn't type in. We'd rather tell you than have you find out.

From your street address, combined with the voter file, we may work out your ward and precinct, and whether the household is likely to include a homeowner or someone 65 or older. We use that to decide who to contact about requesting a mail ballot — which in an April election is most of what a campaign does. We don't sell it, rent it, or publish it, and nothing on this list is bought from a data broker.

Why we ask for your street address

Rockford has fourteen wards and ZIP codes cross them. Your street address tells us which ward and precinct you're in, so a volunteer near you can follow up and so we don't send you information about the wrong part of the city.

Never a ZIP code. A ZIP code would put you in the wrong ward about as often as the right one.

What we do with it

  • Contact you about the campaign, volunteering, and voting deadlines.
  • Route your message to a person who can answer it.
  • Understand which of our own materials are working.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your information. Not to anyone, ever.
  • We do not rent or trade the list to other campaigns, committees, or organizations.
  • We do not publish it.

Service providers who work for the campaign — the system that stores the list, the service that sends email, the company that processes contributions — handle your information in order to do that work, and for nothing else.

Contributions are different, and this part is the law

Campaign contributions are public. If you contribute above the state's itemization threshold, your name, address, occupation, and employer are reported to the Illinois State Board of Elections and become public record.

That's required of every campaign in Illinois. It isn't something this campaign can waive.

Cookies and analytics

This site runs no analytics and sets no cookies. Nothing here counts your visit, follows you between pages, or reports where you came from. There are no advertising trackers.

There is a link to the committee's Facebook page in the footer and on the contact page. It is a plain link and nothing more: no Facebook script, pixel or Like button runs on this site, and Facebook is told nothing about your visit unless you click it. Once you do, you are on their property and their rules apply, not ours.

The property-tax estimator does its arithmetic in your browser. The home value you type is not sent anywhere and is not saved.

If that changes, this page will name the service and say what it collects before it's switched on.

Text messages

We only text you if you checked the box asking us to. Reply STOP to any message and the texting stops, or HELP for a person. Message frequency varies and message and data rates may apply.

When you tick that box we keep a record of it — the date, the form you used, and the exact wording you agreed to. A campaign has to be able to show that consent, and that record is the only reason we keep it.

How long we keep it, and what happens after the election

We keep your contact information until the campaign committee closes — except for financial records, which Illinois law requires us to keep longer. When the committee dissolves, the contact list is deleted.

It is not transferred, not sold, and not handed on to another campaign, another candidate, or a party organization. Campaign lists routinely outlive campaigns. This one will not.

Getting removed

Email blosser4mayor@gmail.com or call 815-669-9604 and ask. You don't have to give a reason, and the request is processed promptly, subject to the records Illinois law requires the committee to retain. Every email we send also has an unsubscribe link.

Security

This site is served over HTTPS. Accounts that can reach the list require two-factor authentication, and access is reviewed on a regular schedule.

The forms on this site are delivered by FormSubmit, an outside form-handling service. What you type in a form passes through it on the way to the campaign's email, under its own privacy policy as well as this one. No form on this site asks for payment details.

Online contributions are handled by Square, on Square's own checkout page. Card numbers are never entered on this site and the campaign never sees them. What the committee receives from Square is the contribution and the contributor details it is required to record, which are covered by the contribution rules on the donate page and by Square's privacy policy as well as this one.
